2019 Kitchen Trends

After reviewing the results of several national Kitchen and Bath surveys done by HOUZZ, House Beautiful and HGTV, as well as seeing what was trending at Kitchen and Bath trade shows held earlier this year, we found that some of the design ideas that emerged for 2019 are new and innovative, while others have been around for a few years. That means if you are planning a kitchen remodel in the next 6-12 months you have a lot of options from which to choose. Here are just a few things to consider:

White Cabinets Still Rule but Navy Blue is Coming on Strong

White cabinetry still remains the most popular color for the majority of homeowners. However, navy, which has been trending for the past few years, still holds a strong place for those who want something a little new and different, and other color cabinets are having a bit of a surge.

Black is The New Black

There is a steady trend in homes with contemporary kitchens to choose black cabinetry. Several manufacturers at the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show in Las Vegas were showing black cabinets and getting a lot of interest. Along those same lines, matte black appliances are all the rage in kitchen remodel trend articles this year. Think long and hard before investing in black cabinets and/or black appliances though. While it may seem like the most “in” thing to do, black appliances or cabinets in the kitchen could become hard to live with over time.

Concealed Storage and Open Shelving

Talk about confusing…in surveys in early 2019 it seemed that more people wanted all their appliances and loose kitchen items behind closed doors giving a totally clean, sleek look to the room. And yet, at the same time, some surveys pointed to the growing popularity of open shelving throughout the kitchen. Seems that both are trending – so which do you prefer? You decide!

Countertops – Quartz Wins Hands Down

In recent years, Engineered Quartz has become a really popular alternative to granite or marble for kitchen countertops. Quartz, which is more durable and long-lasting than granite, is one of the hardest materials in the world and that makes it a great choice for a kitchen countertop.

Digital Technology Rules

This is certainly something you would expect in 2019 and moving forward. Faucets have become high-tech with touch-free activation. Many new appliances are digital, some you can even talk to, and many can be integrated into a home technology system and controlled by family members from a smart phone or tablet. Clients are asking for charging station hubs so the family can recharge their devices – phones, laptops, tablets – while spending time together in the kitchen.

In conclusion, it seems that some of the new trends are actually design ideas that have been around for some time while some others are very unique and stand out from the mainstream.
