This is a result of the aftermath of the pandemic, which includes logistics of getting products, the inability to hire enough qualified cabinet makers, and the lack of materials for manufacturing.
As soon as you have made the decision to move ahead with your kitchen remodel, choose a reputable contractor or kitchen remodeler – preferably one that has been referred by friends or family or has a long-standing reputation in your area. The next step is to start the selection of your kitchen cabinets. There are so many choices of styles, colors, and manufacturers, that you will need some time to evaluate what you want and make decisions that are within your budget.
Once you have determined the style, material type, and color, you can place the order for the cabinets. You will then get an approximate date of when to expect delivery, and you can establish a timeline for planning the rest of the kitchen remodel to fit into this schedule.
If you’re doing a complete kitchen remodel, you will probably want to change your flooring, backsplashes, countertops, lighting, and purchase new appliances. That means visiting the various retailers to make decisions on these items and also determining delivery and installation dates for them as well…it’s not only kitchen cabinets that are taking longer to arrive.
Because you want to have as little inconvenience as possible, be sure to get the appointments made and contractors synchronized. Plan on packing up your dishes, pots and pans, and kitchen utensils a few days prior to the project beginning. As you will not have your kitchen sink or dishwasher once the remodel gets started, remember that you will not have water for food prep or clean-up for at least several weeks. If you have a family especially with younger children, you should try to make some alternate arrangements such as the use of a nearby bathroom sink, or a utility sink in the laundry area or garage so you have access to water for food prep and clean-up.
People who are planning their kitchens now, and having the work done throughout the summer and fall, will have the advantage of grilling many of their meals and eating outdoors while the work is in progress. Another good reason to get your cabinet orders in as soon as possible!
